Ella Fitzgerald - Get Out of Town (Cole Porter). Paul Smith, piano; Barney Kessel, guitar; Joe Mondragon, bass; Alvin Stoller, drums. Recorded in Los Angeles, CA, February 7, 1956. From "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book" (Verve MGV 4001-2), lp rip by Jerry Brabenec.

Joe Mondragon got started in 1946 or so with Woody Herman's First Herd and worked with Art Pepper, Chet Baker, Shelly Manne, Antonio Carlos Jobim and many others over the next 20 years or so. I haven't been able to find a photo of him.

Check out the Jazz Discography Project for a treasure trove of jazz discographical information. The William Gottlieb Photo Collection in the Library of Congress has a lot of good jazz photography.

Our small band, the Dean Solden Trio with Surry Scheerer, played a couple of nice sets at Godaiko Japanese restaurant Saturday night and a fine time was had by all, not least because just before we started the Michigan Wolverines pulled out a last second home victory against Penn State.

Kirin and sushi are excellent accompaniments to live jazz. Watch this space, we are hoping to make this a monthly occasion, and Godaiko is also opening a new restaurant in Novi! They made us very welcome and the food was great.

Here is my worksheet for the Holly Cole Trio's rendition of Cole Porter's "Get Out of Town". It's just a bass part, I don't try to write out real piano chords. I think I'm gonna have to transpose this for Surry also.

The Dean Solden Trio with Surry Scheerer will appear Saturday night October 29 at Goodnite Gracie's in Ann Arbor.

The ii-V-I Orchestra will appear 6:30 to 9:00 Sunday night October 30 at the Creekside Grille west of Ann Arbor.
