Just to show how clueless I am, a couple of symbols that I often wondered about driving about in my cab:


This is the Service Flag, now more commonly known as the Service Banner, displayed by the families of members of the U.S. armed forces in harms way. Blue stars are for family members on active duty "in harm's way", gold stars are for family members who died in service. I felt pretty ignorant not to know that. No links on this topic because finding an authoritative reference will take some time.







This one is the flag of South Carolina. There are many variants.
